A 3D space flight simulation game that delivers an immersive experience.

Spacenauts is a 3D spaceship docking simulation game that delivers immersive experience. This project is part of last project at Apple Developer Academy. The project is developed within 3 month.

As a Project Manager, I responsible to manage end-to-end game development cycles and brainstorm with Game Designer to create a game concept, then list-down it into Game Design Document (GDD). Within 3 months, I worked collaboratively with a telented team consist of Game Designer, Game Developers, and Game Artists to develop a 3D game that delivers an immersive experience.

Overall, my experience as Project Manager at Spacenauts was incredible. Through effective collaboration, innovative thinking, and commit to excellent, we were able to create a proudly game that got appreciation from many people, and enthusiastic welcome from visitor at our exhibition.

Background

Spacenauts is a 3D spaceship docking simulation game that delivers immersive experience. This project is part of last project at Apple Developer Academy. The project is developed within 3 month. First month, we conducted a deep research about game and player target behaviour. During next two month, we focused on ideation, development, playtest, and polishment. The game has been released on AppStore for iPad. So, everyone can download it. Let’s play it!

Why we build this game?

Space has a lot of interesting things. They are big, wide, and full of mysterious things that even human haven’t known all about it. Over dozens of year, human have expanded space. They did a research to deep dive more about what is exactly things out there. People with this job is called Astronaut. They spend a time in the space, did their jobs, and give knowledge to us in the earth.

We want to influence kids to love these amazing things—space, science, and exploration—of course in a fun and exciting way. That’s why we build a spaceship docking game, where players can learn while playing and feel like a real astronaut on a mission. In the spaceship docking game, kids can experience what it feels like to be an astronaut—controlling a spaceship, docking carefully, and completing missions. While playing, they are exposed about space in a joyful and engaging way.

Process

Pre-production

In phase one, we conducted a research about the big-theme. Everyone can listed-down a topic, then telling the argument to the team. We used Miro to notes our thought. 

As a project manager, I gathered all the idea without interruption. After team listed-down the idea, then we choose the selected one. I used RICE framework to choose a theme. Then, space was selected as our big-theme for the project.

After choose the big-theme. We brainstorm the game concept. And, we choose 3 D simulation game about docking spaceship.

Production

During the production phase of Spacenauts, we focused on turning core concepts into a playable docking-based spaceship experience. We use Blender for creating assets and RealityKit for development. We collaboratively developed and iterated on the core flight and docking mechanics, implemented space station interactions, and refined controls and feedback to ensure the gameplay felt precise and rewarding.

As a project manager, I managed the project timeline and production milestones, translating high-level goals into actionable tasks while ensuring steady progress across development phases.

I owned the production backlog by defining, prioritizing, and refining tasks based on scope, technical constraints, and gameplay goals. By coordinating schedules, tracking progress, and addressing blockers early, I helped keep the team aligned and focused on delivering a stable and engaging core docking mechanic. My role emphasized balancing creative ambition with realistic timelines to ensure on-time and sustainable development.
